Day 3 – August 1, 2009 – Mad About AMC TV Mad Men TV Show Blogs – Open Casting Call Contest!

It took more than 3 hours to return to New Jersey from Morty’s in Manhattan, Saturday rush hour traffic.

After showering and changing out of my AC/DC outfit — man do those school-boy shorts ride up on the second day — we headed to Asbury Park to check out the boardwalk and grab a bite to eat.  After recreating the Father-Daughter dance scene from “the Wrestler” in the old Asbury Casino (Jeremy has two left feet) — we settled down to some fresh seafood at  Rooney’s seaside restaurant.

During our meal Karen dropped a bombshell by casually mentioning that Banana Republic was holding a competition for AMC TV Mad Men, where the winner gets a walk-on role — Do my ears deceive me, how awesome would that be?

When we returned from dinner she googled the website for entry details,  while I enlisted the advice of my trusty Magic 8 Ball:

Me: “Should I, audition for Mad Men?”

*Magic 8-ball: CONCENTRATE AND ASK AGAIN*

Me: “Should I risk being ridiculed and enter the Banana Republic contest for a chance to appear on Mad Men?”

*Magic 8-ball: YES,  DEFINITELY*

Me: “Am I going to be the next Don Draper?”

*Magic 8-ball: BETTER NOT TELL YOU NOW *

Not possessing the appropriate 50’s garb, Jeremy and I set-out to the local shopping mall in Freehold and put together an impromptu photo-shoot in the Banana Republic dressing room.  Here are the two photo’s that we settled on and ultimately entered the more formal darker suit pic in the contest.

Clicking on either photo will take you to the official contest site in order to vote for me.   For those who are so inclined, you can vote once per computer per day until the contest closes at midnight on August 11th:

So far the Magic 8 ball has had me cross the PA – NY border three times, directed me to the AC/DC concert and now I’m entered into Banana Republic and AMC TV Mad Men Casting Call Contest … I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

Other Day 3– observations:

– Snoop Dogg is scheduled to play at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park  on Thursday August 6th

– Calamari on Caesar salad is actually pretty good
